[Ueno] Special Exhibition: Art and Crafts of the Imperial Family

Now onDatesSep 1 – Nov 8, 2026

Ueno Park

This special exhibition brings together paintings, calligraphy and crafts handed down within the Imperial Family. Through works collected and passed down over generations, it introduces the culture and aesthetics of the Imperial Court, along with the artistic trends of each era.

The exhibits include a wide range of crafts, such as metalwork, lacquerware and textiles, letting visitors see their fine craftsmanship and designs up close. Some works will be rotated between the first and second halves of the exhibition, so visiting during both periods lets you see different pieces.

The museum is expected to be crowded during the exhibition, especially on weekends and national holidays. To avoid the crowds, a weekday morning visit is recommended. Check the official website to see whether timed-entry tickets are required.
