[Ueno] Lecture "The Architectural Work of Le Corbusier" Marks 10 Years Since World Heritage Inscription! From November 29 at Taito City Lifelong Learning Center
The National Museum of Western Art in Ueno Park is known for its Main Building, designed by the French architect Le Corbusier. In 2016, it was inscribed as one of the component sites of the World Cultural Heritage property "The Architectural Work of Le Corbusier, an Outstanding Contribution to the Modern Movement." The inscription drew attention for listing 17 works across seven countries together, and the National Museum of Western Art is the only component site in Japan.
2026 marks the 10th anniversary of this inscription. To celebrate, a lecture titled "10th Anniversary of World Heritage Inscription Lecture: 'The Architectural Work of Le Corbusier, an Outstanding Contribution to the Modern Movement'" will be held in Ueno. Le Corbusier was one of the leading architects of the 20th century, and his works, which used reinforced concrete and modern building techniques, are said to have greatly influenced later architectural movements around the world. The National Museum of Western Art is his only building in Japan, so the lecture is also a good opportunity to reflect on the presence of a world-class architectural heritage site in Ueno.
The venue is Millennium Hall at Taito City Lifelong Learning Center in the Ueno area. The center serves as a local hub for lifelong learning and hosts a variety of courses and events.
Advance registration is required, and applications are scheduled to open in early October 2026. Further details, such as how to apply and the exact opening date and time, have yet to be announced.
The lecture is a must for anyone interested in architecture or art, as well as for those who want to learn more about the value of the World Heritage Site in Ueno. Why not attend this special event held for the 10th anniversary?
