Building Open Days in August: Former Tokyo Music School Sogakudo

Located in Ueno Park, the Former Tokyo Music School Sogakudo is Japan's oldest Western-style concert hall. Built in 1890 (Meiji 23), it served as the concert venue of the Tokyo Music School (now the Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts) and is the birthplace of modern music education in Japan. The building is still opened to the public on a regular basis, and visitors can tour this valuable Meiji-era structure, which preserves its original appearance.

The building is open on the following 12 days in August:

  • August 2
  • August 4
  • August 5
  • August 9
  • August 11
  • August 12
  • August 16
  • August 18
  • August 19
  • August 23
  • August 25

Two things to note:

  • As a Meiji-era building, it is not barrier-free. There are no elevators or similar facilities, so please plan your visit accordingly.
  • Photography inside the hall is not permitted while on-stage rehearsals or concerts are taking place.

The venue name, address, admission fee and official URL could not be confirmed, so please check directly with Ueno Park or the facility's management before visiting.
