Large Stained Glass at JR Ueno Station Relocated Inside Shinkansen Ticket Gates, on View from October 7

Overview

At JR Ueno Station, the large stained glass work "Spring 1985: Hometown – Flowers of Japan" has been moved inside the Shinkansen ticket gates. It has been on view there since Wednesday, October 7.

The work is based on an original painting by Nihonga (Japanese-style) painter Ikuo Hirayama, who also supervised its creation. The words "Hometown" and "Flowers of Japan" appear side by side in its title, and its place in a station means many people see it.

With this move, the work is now displayed in a new location inside the Shinkansen ticket gates. Travelers can stop while changing trains or waiting for a Shinkansen and view the large stained glass up close.

Ueno is also known as a cultural district with many art museums and museums. Coming across a work based on a Hirayama painting inside the station is part of what makes Ueno special. For people leaving Ueno Station by Shinkansen, or arriving in Ueno by Shinkansen, it is a chance to enjoy the work at the start or end of their trip.

Note that the work is located inside the Shinkansen ticket gates. If you plan to see it, it's best to stop by as part of your travel plans.
