Uenosakuragi Neighborhood Association Conducts Crime-Prevention Night Patrols
Overview
In Uenosakuragi, in the Ueno area, the local Uenosakuragi Neighborhood Association is conducting night patrols to prevent crime.
Night patrols involve walking around the neighborhood after dark to keep watch. This initiative is led by the neighborhood association and carried out for the purpose of crime prevention.
A neighborhood association (chĹŤkai) is a local organization made up of the residents and businesses in the area. A key feature of these patrols is that residents themselves are paying attention to the safety of their own community and taking action, independently of the local government and the police. Locals patrolling on their own during the hours after sunset, when fewer people are out, also reflects their commitment to protecting the neighborhood.
For people who live in Uenosakuragi or regularly pass through the area, this is an initiative taking place close to home. If you see people patrolling at night, they may be members of the neighborhood association working on local crime prevention.
Details such as the patrol period, specific times, patrol routes and how to take part have not been announced at this time. If you would like to learn more about the activity or are interested in joining, we recommend contacting the Uenosakuragi Neighborhood Association.
Residents Supporting Local Safety
Crime prevention depends not only on each individual's awareness but also on a system of community-wide watchfulness. The night patrols by the Uenosakuragi Neighborhood Association are one example of residents taking the lead in keeping their area safe.
Knowing that such activities take place nearby can also prompt people to take a closer look at the community they live in. Why not take this opportunity to think again about crime prevention if you live or work in the Ueno area?
