Cheese is… ─ A Pop-Up Shop Asking "What Does Cheese Mean to You?" Comes to JR Ueno Station

"Cheese is…", a cheese-themed pop-up shop, is opening on the 3rd floor inside the ticket gates at JR Ueno Station. It will run for two weeks, from September 14 to September 27, 2026.

The shop's theme is a simple but deep question: "What does cheese mean to you?" Cheese is remarkably versatile. You can eat it on its own, cook with it or pair it with drinks, and everyone has their own favorite way to enjoy it and their own memories tied to it. The name "Cheese is…" deliberately leaves the sentence unfinished, so each visitor can find their own answer.

The venue, the 3rd floor inside the gates at JR Ueno Station, sees heavy traffic from Shinkansen and local line passengers. Commuters, students, travelers and business travelers all pass through, so the shop is easy to spot. Set up for a limited time in the middle of this flow of people, a shop built around such a familiar yet surprisingly deep subject gives station users a new place to drop in on a whim.

The "is…" in the shop's name also reflects a focus on each visitor's own experiences and impressions. For cheese lovers, and for people who eat cheese without giving it much thought, the shop may be a chance to reconsider their own relationship with cheese.

The address, opening-day details, prices and official website have not been announced yet. We will share updates as more information becomes available.
